Bonita Kelemen will be instructing the classes. She is an IIQTC Certified instructor. Her classes and practice program have been designed under the guidance of the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi and Dr. Roger Jahnke. She is also certified by the Supreme Science Qigong Association and Dr. Paul Lam, Tai Chi for Health Institute. Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for its health and longevity benefits. Today, Tai Chi has spread worldwide. A multitude of training forms exits, both traditional and modern, being especially known for being practiced with slow movements.

New night for Classes will be every Thursday at 6:00. $10 for each class or $100 for 12 classes.

Franklin Community Players - Presents

The Franklin Community Players announces the third annual BREAKFAST WITH THE GRINCH.  It has been scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Lavonia Cultural Center, from 9 to 10:30 am,  Tickets go on sale on Thursday, November 1 at 10 am. BREAKFAST WITH THE GRINCH includes breakfast, a craft project and the opportunity to have a photo taken with the beloved Doctor Seuss character. The Grinch first appeared as the title character the 1957 Christmas story How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Despite his initial hatred of Christmas and all it embodies, the Grinch learned how to embrace the true spirit of the holidays and has since become an icon of the Christmas season.

“We invite all children in the Northeast Georgia area to take part in what has become an annual event,” said Valicia Miller. “Last year’s Breakfast with the Grinch sold out quickly. One of FCP’s ongoing goals is to offer entertainment that families can enjoy together, right here in the community. We encourage parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and children to join us for the pre-Christmas festivities. Please help us keep sponsoring these kinds of events in the future.”

Franklin Community Players presents “Stories and Songs of Christmas” on Friday, December 14th for One Show Only

at 7 pm at the Lavonia Cultural Center.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday, November 1 for the Franklin Community Players’ original production of the Stories and Songs of Christmas. The yuletide revue is scheduled for one performance only, at 7 pm on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the Lavonia Cultural Center. 

The FCP is truly blessed to have such strong performers in the area. This wealth of talent allows us to produce shows like Stories and Songs of Christmas”.

Tickets for Stories and Songs of Christmas are general admission, and $5 for adults as well as children aged 3 to 12 years old. Children 2 and under are free. For tickets, call (706) 491-9374.


Franklin Community Players - announces 

sign ups for “Northeast Georgia’s Got Talent” 
beginning  Thursday, December 27, 2018.  


The Franklin Community Players announced they are holding sign-ups for the new area talent competition, NORTHEAST GEORGIA’S GOT TALENT. The show will have three categories, including voice, dance and variety. For the voice category only, there are two age groups, 12 and under and 13 and up. The competition is open to solo, duet, group and family acts. A $200 grand prize is offered.

The competition will take place at the Lavonia Cultural Center. The first contest is Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 7 pm and the second show is Saturday, February 23rd at 7 pm. Finalists from the first two nights will face off in the finals on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 7 pm. Finalists are encouraged to prepare a different number for the March 16th show.

Limited slots are available for entries. People interested in participating can register by telephone at (706) 491-9374 from 10 am to 4 pm, starting Thursday, December 27, 2018. There is a $10 entry fee per act, due upon registration. All entertainment must be family-friendly.

Contestants will be limited to a four-minute performance and two-minute transition between acts. Limited microphones are available for the Cultural Center’s sound system. The performer must provide any desired accompaniment on a USB flash drive no later than one week prior to the show. A dress rehearsal is scheduled the evening prior to each of the three shows at 6 pm at the Lavonia Cultural Center.

Franklin Community Players - announces 

Auditions for Monday, January 7, 2019 and Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 6 to 7:30 PM 


     The Franklin Community Players announced auditions for TWO MINUTES TILL CURTAIN are scheduled for Monday, January 7 and Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 6 to 7:30 pm. The auditions are drop in (no advance appointments) and will be conducted at the Lavonia Cultural Center.

People interested in auditioning are asked to prepare 30 seconds of music to be sung a cappella. In addition, a cold read will be required. There are a number of roles available for children aged 8 and up, teenagers and adults. The minimum age to audition is eight years old.   

     The hilarious and innovative original comedy with music TWO MINUTES TILL CURTAIN, written and directed by Franklin Community Players’ president emeritus, Valicia Miller, is coming to the Lavonia Cultural Center for four performances only, Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10, 2019.

     TWO MINUTES TILL CURTAIN features a cast of about twenty local actors/singers and utilizes a show-within-a-show structure. The first act takes place backstage immediately prior to the curtain going up on a live production. It follows the conversations of three groups of actors as they are preparing to take the stage, including a number of adults bantering back and forth, a discussion among a group of teenage actors and even talks between several child actors. The second act portrays the show itself, a vaudeville-style production featuring Broadway standards, including Give My Regards to Broadway, On Broadway, Make “Em Laugh and more.
